Has China's steel exports cooled down?

After hitting a four-year high in April, China’s steel exports fell by 34% month-on-month in May. Regarding the follow-up development, some industry experts pointed out that in view of domestic and foreign market demand and price comparison trends, China's steel export boom is still likely to heat up, and we must take precautions early.

 According to customs data, from January to May, China exported 30.924 million tons of steel, a year-on-year increase of 23.7%; imported steel was 6.097 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 11.6%. In May, the export of steel products was 5.271 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 19.8%, and a month-on-month decrease of 2.702 million tons, which was a decrease compared to the same period in 2019. Imported steel products were 1.206 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 5.8%, a slight increase from April.
